When I became a reporter in Eugene my assignment was to cover the community and public agencies.

To try to answer directly, no it was not any one case that convinced me. But my eyes were opened to a world that I had not known before. One in which there were people with personality disorders (not thought disorders) who were anti-social, narcissistic and acted on those disorders.

In speaking to high school and college classes I often describe what I call the "food pyramid of crime." The base, and overwhelming majority at about 75%-80% are just misfits, addicts, and others who aren't truly evil but just lazy and selfish. Above them are 10-15% of people who are professional criminals - burglars, drug dealers who are not themselves addicts (this group are often the easiest to deal with since they see getting caught as a business risk). Then at the top, though a very small percentage are the sociopaths. Many of them are, quite literally, beyond redemption. , Joshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14728143147134919263noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1961411431611631367.post-85658869574864819012015-10-09T15:33:15.058-07:002015-10-09T15:33:15.058-07:00You mentioned that when you were in Eugene working...You mentioned that when you were in Eugene working as a reporter in the 1970's you realized there were truly evil people, would you mind expanding on this? Was there a certain case you were researching or involved in investigating that caused this shift or was it something more personal?Ally Walkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12361808203009341281noreply@blogger.com
